First pass at the second rose. Values are pretty much there but there’s a lot more color going on. Will need at least another day on this one.

Peach Roses – Paul Foxton Workshop
Wow this was a blast. Look at those colors! This is the first pass so there’ll be some tweaking of detail in the left hand rose later but probably not a lot.
White Still Life with Lime – Part 1
First pass on a white still life with lime. This is an exercise in painting close values. Pretty much everything is squeezed into a narrow value range which means a lot of simplifying and judging relationships. I’m feeling good about it so far – hopefully I won’t throw it all away tomorrow.
Roses Finished
This one is now done. Quite a few changes – lowered the chroma of the background as it was too intrusive. Repainted the inners of both flowers and tweaked some of the values on the petals. And various other things.
More Roses
I’m officially abandoning the 30 in 30 watercolor challenge. I wasn’t particularly thrilled with what was going on and my enthusiasm was waning so I’m back on the oils for a bit. Today was another of Paul Foxton’s rose references.
A few intermediates.
Rose Oil Value Study
Rose oil value study in week 1 of Paul Foxton’s workshop. I did a little more work on this study. The right hand rose needed some work on form and more contrast and I sharpened up edges here and there. Don’t think I went too far but it’s close.
