This painting lark never gets easier. This is a scene I’ve painted before and I thought would be a walk in the park. I was wrong. Very tough.
My usual method now starts with careful color matching. Makes a huge difference in getting the values right.
And here for comparison is my version from 2 years ago.
Lovely news this morning. Dottie Lawson from the
Wellesley Society of Artists
just called to say I’ve won the
Margaret Fitzwilliam Excellence in Watercolor award
Fall 2020 Show.
Really didn’t expect anything from this show as the work is always so strong so it was great to hear.
If people are out and about the show is on
November 2-30th at the Wellesley Free Library
(530 Washington St, Wellesley, MA).
Many thanks to Dottie and Yale at the WSA and especially to the juror Pat Walker.
And some lovely comments. Always great to hear that what you are trying to express comes through.
I’m working with a student to paint her lovely cocker spaniel Leo. Had to do a quick sketch to see how the colors and values would work out. Think it will be ok.
This will be next weeks class/demo. A lot looser than usual for a class and closer to how I would usually work. Fingers crossed!
A couple of intermediates.
