Cow
Apparently I have never painted a cow before. Somebody mentioned cows in passing on facebook and this seemed like an ideal opportunity to have a go. I took quite a lot of care on the drawing. I even did a preparatory sketch which is something I ought always to do but rarely do. I was glad I did in this case - those legs were worth having a bit of practice on.
As you can see from the sketch I toyed with the idea of chopping off the feet which would allow the head and body to be bigger and I could show more detail in the face. In the end I decided the feet should be in.
This isn't my usual paper (this is Kilimanjaro 140lb cold pressed) and it's not as absorbent as Arches or Saunders Waterford. This meant a few hard edges here and there but I think that adds to the charm.
It came out rather well I think. She looks rather dignified.
