Orchid Experiment – Day 3 of 30 in 30

So continuing on from yesterday’s trial of flowers on dark backgrounds I tried again.   After looking at some of
Jacqueline Gnott’s

work I realized working wet in wet would be a lot more successful for the petals.    So I did that.    I also did two layers on the background to sharpen things up a bit more.  Frankly I’m not really sold on this method.     I may do another one before the month is up just to see if anything gels but I can’t see me going in this direction.

  1. These are gorgeous! I know you said that about the heavy lifting, but your details are wonderful and the background is so varied in terms of depth, color, and value. If this is "experimenting", keep doing it!

    1. Thanks Laurie – I will keep on for a bit but all this layering is dull đŸ™‚ If I could manage to blend loose alla prima painting and keep the contrasts somehow….

    1. Many thanks Joan. You’re right the contrast is striking but, you know, it almost feels like cheating. I’m keeping on though.

btw – I was looking at your abstracts earlier today. The latest one (#3) is really something.

  2. I think you did a great job with this although I am not sure what you were aiming for. Sometimes our misses are perfect in themselves. I enjoyed seeing this on the 30/30 challenge.
