Art class number 1

I signed up for a watercolor class at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education.  It’s just down the street from Harvard and as it starts at 8pm there’s time for a beer and a bite beforehand.
We were given a choice of photographs to work from that had been torn from calendars. This is just a part of the photo accompanying a September entry.    Yes the subject matter is rather twee but I was quite pleased all the same.

btw it’s very stressful painting with other people.   The pressure is on not to screw up.

A fruity warmup

Just to get the brushes going.   Moved up to a 12 from an 8 – much easier to get some dry brush (not that you can see much here) on standard paper.

Tried to follow some of Charles Reid’s instructions – use local color and don’t differentiate objects from surroundings.   Didn’t really succeed on the last.

Also tried to get a greater value range – definitely feeling the power of this now.
